So they all went out to look for Kanga.
そういうことで、みんなはカンガを探しに出かけました。
Kanga and Roo were spending a quiet afternoon in a sandy part of the Forest.
カンガとルーは森の砂のある場所で静かな午後を過ごしていました。
Baby Roo was practising very small jumps in the sand,
ベイビー・ルーは砂場で小さなジャンプの練習をしていました。
and falling down mouse-holes and climbing out of them, and Kanga was fidgeting about and saying “Just one more jump, dear, and then we must go home.”
ネズミの穴に落ちたり、這い出たり、カンガはそわそわして、「あと１回だけよ。帰りますからね。」と言いました。
And at that moment who should come stumping up the hill but Pooh.
そんな時、丘をドスンドスンとやって来たのは他ならぬプーでした。
"Good afternoon, Kanga."
「こんにちわ、カンガ。」
"Good afternoon, Pooh."
「こんにちわ、プー。」
"Look at me jumping," squeaked Roo, and fell into another mouse-hole.
「ボクのジャンプ見てよ。」ルーはキーキー声で言うと、また別のネズミの穴に落ちました。

"Hallo, Roo, my little fellow!"
「やあ、ルー、可愛いね。」
"We were just going home," said Kanga. "Good afternoon, Rabbit. Good afternoon, Piglet."
「ちょうど家に帰ろうとしていたの。こんにちわ、ラビット。こんにちわ、ピグレット。」カンガは言いました。
Rabbit and Piglet, who had now come up from the other side of the hill, said,
丘の反対側を登ってきたばかりのラビットとピグレットは言いました。
“Good afternoon,” and “Hallo, Roo,” and Roo asked them to look at him jumping, so they stayed and looked.
「こんにちわ。」そして、「やあ、ルー。」ルーは彼らにジャンプを見てと頼んだので、彼らはそこで見ていました。
And Kanga looked too....
そしてカンガも見ようと・・・
"Oh, Kanga," said Pooh, after Rabbit had winked at him twice, "I don't know if you are interested in Poetry at all?"
「おお、カンガ、」ラビットが２度ウインクをした後、プーは言いました。「君は詩に興味があるかどうかわからないんだけど。」

"Hardly at all," said Kanga.

「ルー、ジャンプはあと１回だけよ。そしたら、家に帰るのよ。」
There was a short silence while Roo fell down another mouse-hole.
ルーがもう一度ネズミの穴に落ちると短い沈黙がありました。
"Go on," said Rabbit in a loud whisper behind his paw.
「続けて、」ラビットは口に手をあてて大きなささやき声で言いました。
"Talking of Poetry," said Pooh, "I made up a little piece as I was coming along. It went like this. Er ー now let me see ー"
「詩と言えば、来る途中で１つ作ったんだよ。こんな感じの。えー えーっとー」プーは言いました。
"Fancy!" said Kanga. "Now Roo, dear ー"
「すばらしい！さあ、ルー。」カンガは言いました。
"You'll like this piece of poetry," said Rabbit.
「きっとこの詩が気に入るよ。」ラビットは言いました。
"You'll love it," said Piglet.
「とても気にいるよ。」ピグレットは言いました。
"You must listen very carefully," said Rabbit.
「よーく聞いてよ。」ラビットは言いました。
"So as not to miss any of it," said Piglet.
「何一つ聞き漏らさないように。」ピグレットは言いました。
"Oh, yes," said Kanga, but she still looked at Baby Roo.
「そうね。」カンガは言いました。でも彼女はまだベイビー・ルーを見ていました。
"How did it go, Pooh?" said Rabbit.
「どんな詩だったっけ、プー？」ラビットは言いました。
Pooh gave a little cough and began.
プーは少し咳をして始めました。

On Friday ー
金曜ー
snows / grows/ knows / those
blue / do / true / who
freeze / trees / sees / these、がそれぞれ韻を踏んでいます。
"Yes, it is, isn't it?" said Kanga, not waiting to hear what happened on Friday. "Just one more jump, Roo, dear, and we really must be going."
「そうよね。」カンガは金曜日はどうなるのか聞こうともせずに、言いました。「ジャンプはもう１回よ、ルー。ホントに帰らなきゃならないの。」
Rabbit gave Pooh a hurring-up sort of nudge.
ラビットはプーを急がせるように肘でつつきました。
"Talking of Poetry," said Pooh quickly, "have you ever noticed that tree right over there?"
「詩と言えば、向こうのあの木に気付いた？」素早くプーは言いました。
"Where?" said Kanga. "Now, Roo ー "
「どこ？さあ、ルー」カンガは言いました。
"Right over there," said Pooh, pointing behind Kanga's back.
「向こう。」プーはカンガの背中の後ろを指差しながら、言いました。
"No," said Kanga. "Now jump in, Roo, dear, and we'll go home."
「いいえ、」カンガは言いました。「さあ、ジャンプして、ルー、帰るわよ。」
"You ought to look at that tree right over there," said Rabbit. "Shall I lift you in, Roo?" And he picked up Roo in his paws.
「向こうのあの木を見るべきだよ。」ラビットは言いました。「君をかかえてあげようか、ルー」彼は手でルーをかかえました。

"It isn't a fish, it's a bird," said Piglet.
「魚じゃないよ、鳥だよ。」ピグレットは言いました。
"Is it a starling or a blackbird?" said Pooh.
「ムクドリかな、クロウタドリかな？」プーは言いました。
"That's the whole question," said Rabbit. "Is it a blackbird or a starling?"
「それが問題のすべてだ。クロウタドリなのか、ムクドリなのか？」ラビットは言いました。
