Ch.4-7　「ティガー、ティガー、ジャンプするんだよ！」

But Piglet wasn't listening,
しかしピグレットは聞いていませんでした。

he was so agog at the thought of seeing Christopher Robin's blue braces again.
彼はクリストファー・ロビンの青いズボンつりをもう一度見れることにワクワクしていました。

He had only seen them once before,
彼は一度だけ見たことがありました。

when he was much younger, and, being a little over-excited by them, had had to go to bed half an hour earlier than usual;
ずっと前、そしてあまりに興奮して、いつもより１時間も早く寝なければならなかったほどです。

and he had always wondered since if they were really as blue and as bracing as he had thought them.
そして彼はそれ以来いつも本当にそれが思っていたとおりの青のズボンつりだろうかと思っていました。

So when Christopher Robin took his tunic off, and they were, he felt quite friendly to Eeyore again, and held the corner of the tunic next to him and smiled happily at him.
それでクリストファー・ロビンが服を脱いだら、確かにその通りだったので、彼はイーヨーに再び親しみを感じて、イーヨーの隣で服の隅をつかんで、彼に微笑みました。

And Eeyore whispered back:
すると、イーヨーもささやきを返しました。

"I'm not saying there won't be an Accident now, mind you. They're funny things, Accidents. You never have them till you're having them."
「事故が起こらないとは言っていないよ、いいかい。おかしなもので、事故ってやつは。起こるまでは起こらないよ。」

When Roo understood what he had to do, he was wildly excited, and cried out:
ルーはどうしたらよいのかを理解したとき、とても興奮して、叫びました。

"Tigger, Tigger, we're going to jump! Look at me jumping, Tigger! Like flying, my jumping will be. Can Tiggers do it?"
「ティガー、ティガー、ジャンプするんだよ！、ボクのジャンプ見てて、ティガー！ボクのジャンプは飛んでるみたいだから。ティガーはできる？」

And he squeaked out:
そして彼はかん高い声で、叫びました。

"I'm coming, Christopher Robin!" and he jumped-- straight into the middle of the tunic.
「今、行くよ、クリストファー・ロビン！」そして、ジャンプしました。まっすぐ服の真ん中に。

And he was going so fast that he bounced up again almost as high as where he was before-and went on bouncing and saying, “Oo!” for quite a long time-and then at last he stopped and said, “Oo, lovely!” And they put him on the ground.
そして彼はあまりに速く下りてきたので、再びかれが元いた所まで跳ね返りー跳ね返りを繰り返して、「おう！」と何度も言いながらーついに止まって、「素敵だった！」と言って、みんなは彼を地面におろしました。

"Come on, Tigger," he called out. "It's easy."
「さあ、ティガー。簡単だよ。」彼は叫びました。

But Tigger was holding on to the branch and saying to himself:
しかし、彼は枝につかまったまま、言いました。

"It's all very well for Jumping Animals like Kangas, but it's quite different for Swimming Animals like Tiggers."
「カンガのようにジャンプする動物ならうまく行くんだけど、ティガーのように泳ぐ動物にとっては話が違うんだ。」

And he thought of himself floating on his back down a river, or striking out from one island to another, and he felt that that was really the life for a Tigger.
そして、彼は自分が背泳ぎで川を下っているのを想像して、島のような所にぶつかりながら、これがティガーの生活だと思いました。

"Come along," called Christopher Robin. "You'll be all right."
「さあ、おいで、大丈夫だから。」クリストファー・ロビンは叫びました。

"Just wait a moment," said Tigger nervously. "Small piece of bark in my eye."
「ちょっと待って、目に木の皮が入った。」ティガーは不安になって言いました。

And he moved slowly along his branch.
そして、彼はゆっくりと枝に沿って動きました。

"Come on, it's easy!" squeaked Roo.
「さあ、簡単だよ！」ルーは叫びました。

And suddenly Tigger found how easy it was.
そして突然ティガーは簡単だと分かりました。

"Ow!" he shouted as the tree flew past him.
「おう！」彼は目の前を木が飛んで行ったとき叫びました。

"Look out!" cried Christopher Robin to the others.
「気をつけて！」クリストファー・ロビンはみんなに叫びました。

There was a crash, and a tearing noise,
ぶつかる音がして、裂ける音がしました。

and a confused heap of everybody on the ground.
地面にはみんなのごっちゃになったかたまりがありました。

Christopher Robin and Pooh and Piglet picked themselves up first,
クリストファー・ロビンとプーとピグレットがまず起き上がりました。

and then they picked Tigger up,
それから彼らはティガーを起こしました。

and underneath everybody else was Eeyore.
そしてみんなの下にはイーヨーがいました。

"Oh, Eeyore!" cried Christopher Robin. "Are you hurt?"
「おう、イーヨー！怪我した？」クリストファー・ロビンは叫びました。

And he felt him rather anxiously, and dusted him and helped him to stand up again.
そして彼はイーヨーをとても心配して、彼のホコリを払い、彼が立ち上がるのを手伝いました。

Eeyore said nothing for a long time.
イーヨーは長いこと何も言いませんでした。

And then he said:
そして、

"Is Tigger there?"
「ティガーはいる？」と言いました。

Tigger was there,
ティガーはいました。

feeling Bouncy again already.
もうすでに飛び跳ねる気でいました。

"Yes," said Christopher Robin. "Tigger's here."
「いるよ。ティガーはここだよ。」クリストファー・ロビンは言いました。

"Well, just thank him for me," said Eeyore.
「それじゃあ、ボクにかわって、彼に感謝して。」イーヨーは言いました。
