In a little while they came to the Six Pine Trees.
しばらくすると、彼らは『６本の松の木』の所へやって来ました。
"I can swim," said Roo. "I fell into the river, and I swimmed. Can Tiggers swim?"
「ボク、泳げるよ。」ルーは言いました。「川に落ちて、泳いだんだ。ティガーは泳げる？」
注）swimmed : swim の過去形( swam のこと) 子供などが使う間違った表現
"Of course they can. Tiggers can do everything."
「もちろん、泳げるさ。ティガーは何でもできるんだ。」
"Can they climb trees better than Pooh?" asked Roo, stopping under the tallest Pine Tree, and looking up at it.
「プーよりも上手に木に登れる？」ルーは一番高い松の木の下で立ち止まり、見上げてたずねました。
"Climbing trees is what they do best," said Tigger. "Much better than Poohs."
「木登りが一番得意なんだ。プーよりもずっと上手に」ティガーは言いました。
"Could they climb this one?"
「この木に登れる？」
"They're always climbing trees like that," said Tigger. "Up and down all day."
「いつもそんなふうな木に昇ってるよ。１日中登ったり、降りたり。」ティガーは言いました。
"Oo, Tigger, are they really?"
「わあ、ティガー、ほんと？」
"I'll show you," said Tigger bravely, "and you can sit on my back and watch me."
「見せてあげよう。」ティガーは勇敢に言いました。「キミはぼくの背中に乗って、見てて。」
For of all the things which he had said Tiggers could do, the only one he felt really certain about suddenly was climbing trees.
ティガーができると言った中で、本当にできそうだと思ったのが、木登りでした。

"Oo, Tigger--oo, Tigger--oo, Tigger!" squeaked Roo excitedly.
「わあ、ティガー、ウ～、ティガー、ウ～！」ルーは興奮してかん高い声で叫びました。
So he sat on Tigger's back and up they went.
それで、かれはティガーの背中に乗り、彼らは登り始めました。
And for the first ten feet Tigger said happily to himself,
そして、最初の１０フィートでティガーは楽しそうに言いました。
“Up we go!” And for the next ten feet he said:
「さあ、行くぞ！」 次の１０フィートで彼は言いました。
"I always said Tiggers could climb trees."
「ティガーは木に登れるといってるだろ？」
And for the next ten feet he said:
次の１０フィートで彼は言いました。
"Not that it's easy, mind you."
「いいかい、しかし簡単とは言ってないよ。」
注）squeak ：かん高い声で言う

And for the next ten feet he said:
そして次の１０フィートで彼は言いました。
"Of course, there's the coming-down too. Backwards."
「もちろん、今度は降りる番だ。戻る。」
And then he said:
そして、彼は言いました。
"Which will be difficult . . ."
「そっちは難しいよ。」
"Unless one fell . . ."
「もし、落ちなければ・・・」
"When it would be . . ."
「難しいときは・・・」
"EASY."
「簡単だ。」
And at the word “easy,” the branch he was standing on broke suddenly, and he just managed to clutch at the one above him as he felt himself going... and then slowly he got his chin over it...
『簡単』と言ったとき、彼が乗っていた枝が突然折れて、それでも、落ちようとした時、何とか上の枝にしがみついて、ゆっくりとあごを出し・・・
and then one back paw...
それから片方の足、
and then the other...
そしてもう片方の足・・・
until at last he was sitting on it, breathing very quickly,
はあはあ息をして、やっとのことで枝に乗りました。
and wishing that he had gone in for swimming instead.
泳ぎのほうがよかったかなと思いながら、
Roo climbed off, and sat down next to him.
ルーは背中から降りて、彼の隣に座りました。
"Oo, Tigger," he said excitedly, "are we at the top?"
「ウ～、ティガー。頂上なの？」彼は興奮して言いました。
"No," said Tigger.
「いや、違う。」ティガーは言いました。
"Are we going to the top?"
「頂上まで行くの？」
"No," said Tigger.
「いや。」ティガーは言いました。
"Oh!" said Roo rather sadly. And then he went on hopefully: "That was a lovely bit just now, when you pretended we were going to fall-bump-to-the-bottom, and we didn't. Will you do that bit again?"
「おう！」ルーは残念そうに言いました。そして、希望をもって、話を続けました。「今、ちょっと素敵だったね。キミが下まで落ちそうになるフリをして、落ちなかったの。あれもう一度やってくれる？」
"No," said Tigger.
「だめだ。」ティガーは言いました。
