"Many happy returns of the day," called out Pooh,
「誕生日おめでとう」プーは言いました。
forgetting that he had said it already.
彼は、前に、言っていたことを忘れていました。
"Thank you, Pooh, I'm having them," said gloomily.
「ありがとう。楽しんでるよ。」イーヨーは憂うつそうに言いました。
"I've brought you a little present," said Pooh excitedly.
「ちょっとしたプレゼントを持ってきたんだ。」プーは興奮して言いました。
"I've had it," said Eeyore.
「もうもらったよ。」イーヨーは言いました。
Pooh had now splashed across the stream to Eeyore,
プーは、水しぶきを上げて小川を渡って、イーヨーのところに来ました。
and Piglet was sitting a little way off, his head in his paws, snuffling to himself.
ピグレットは、頭を抱えて鼻をすすり、少し離れたところに座っていました。
"It's a Useful Pot," said Pooh. "Here it is. And It's got 'A Very Happy Birthday with love from Pooh' written on it. That's what all that writing is. And it's for putting things in. There!"
「役に立つツボなんだ。さあどうぞ。それに『プーより愛をこめて誕生日おめでとう』って書いてあるんだ。その文字がそうだよ。それは物を入れるための物なんだ。ほら！」
When Eeyore saw the pot, he became quite excited.
イーヨーがそのツボを見ると、とてもワクワクしました。
"Why!" he said. "I believe my balloon will just go into that Pot!"
「わあ！ボクの風船がちょうどツボに入ると思うよ！」彼は言いました。

"Oh, no, Eeyore," said Pooh. "Balloons are much too big to go into Pots.What you do with a balloon is, you hold the balloon ー"
「違うよ、イーヨー。風船は大き過ぎてツボには入らないって。風船というのは、手に持つものなんだー」プーは言いました。
注）much too big to : あまりに大きすぎて～しない

I'm sorry, I left it on the train.
ごめん、列車に忘れてきた。

"Not mine," said Eeyore proudly. "Look, Piglet!"
「ボクの風船はそうじゃないんだ。ピグレット、見てよ。」イーヨーは自慢気に言いました。
And as Piglet looked sorrowfully round, Eeyore picked the balloon up with his teeth, and placed it carefully in the pot; picked it out and put it on the ground; and then picked it up again and put it carefully back.
そして、ピグレットが悲しそうに見回すと、イーヨーが歯で風船をつまみ、注意深くツボの中に入れては、取り出し、地面に置いて、再びつまんでは、注意深くツボに戻していました。
"So it does!" said Pooh. "It goes in!"
「ホントだね。入るね！」プーは言いました。
"So it does!" said Piglet. "And it comes out!"
「ホントだ。出せるんだ。」ピグレットが言いました。
"Doesn't it?" said Eeyore. "It goes in and out like anything."
「そうだろ？ちゃんと入ったり出たりするんだ。」イーヨーが言いました。

"I'm very glad," said Pooh happily, "that I thought of giving you a Useful Pot to put things in."
「君に物を入れるための役に立つツボをあげることを思いついてうれしいよ。」プーはうれしそうに言いました。
"I'm very glad," said Piglet happily, "that I thought of giving you Something to put in a Useful Pot."
「役に立つツボに入れることができる物を思いついてうれしいよ。」ピグレットもうれしそうに言いました。
But Eeyore wasn't listening.
しかしイーヨーは聞いていませんでした。
He was taking the balloon out, and putting it back again, as happy as could be....
彼は風船を取り出しては、再び戻して、この上なく嬉しそうでした。
“And didn't I give him anything?” asked Christopher Robin sadly.
「ボクは何もあげなかったの？」クリストファー・ロビンが悲しそうに言いました。
“Of course you did,” I said. “You gave him don't you remember—a little—a little ”
「もちろん、あげたさ。君は彼に ー 覚えてない？ ー ちょっとした ー」私は言いました。
“I gave him a box of paints to paint things with.”
「ボクは何か描けるように絵の具の箱をあげたんだ。」
“That was it.”
「そうだったね。」
“Why didn't I give it to him in the morning?”
「どうして朝のうちにあげなかったんだろう？」
“You were so busy getting his party ready for him. He had a cake with icing on the top, and three candles, and his name in pink sugar? and ”
「君は彼のパーティの準備で忙しかったんだ。アイスと３本のキャンドルとピンクの砂糖で彼の名前がついたケーキを貰ってー」
“Yes, I remember,” said Christopher Robin.
「そうだった、覚えてるよ。」クリストファー・ロビンは言いました。
