"He's quite big enough anyhow," said Piglet.

"He isn't really very big."

"Well he seems so."
「大きそうに見えるけどね。」
Pooh was thoughtful when he heard this,
プーはこれを聞いて考えた。
and then he murmured to himself:

But whatever his weight in pounds,

shillings, and ounces,

He always seems bigger

because of his bounces

"And that's the whole poem," he said. "Do you like it, Piglet?"

"All except the shillings," said Piglet. "I don't think they ought to be there."

"They wanted to come in after the pounds," explained Pooh, " so I let them. It is the best way to write poetry, letting things come."
「シリングはポンドの後に入りたかったんだ。」プーは説明しました。 「だから入れてあげた。詩を書くにはこれが一番なんだ。自然とそうなるんだよ。」
pounds は『お金』と『重さ』の単位なので、プーは、shilling もそうだと思ったのでしょう

"Oh, I didn't know," said Piglet.
「 そう、知らなかった。」ピグレットは言いました。
Tigger had been bouncing in front of them all this time,
この間、ティガーは彼らの前で飛び跳ねていました。
turning round every now and then to ask, “Is this the way?”
そして時々振り向いて、「これでいい？」と尋ねたりしました。
and now at last they came in sight of Kanga's house, and there was Christopher Robin.
そうこうするうちにカンガの家が見えてきて、そこにはクリストファー・ロビンがいました。
Tigger rushed up to him.
ティガーは急いで彼のもとへ走りました。
"Oh, there you are, Tigger!" said Christopher Robin. "I knew you'd be somewhere."
「やあ、君かい、ティガー。どこかにいることは分かっていたんだけど。」クリストファー・ロビンは言いました。
"I've been finding things in the Forest," said Tigger importantly. "I've found a pooh and a piglet and an eeyore, but I can't find any breakfast."
「森でいろんなものを見つけてたんだ。」ティガーはもったいぶって言いました。「プーやピグレットやイーヨーを見つけたよ。でも朝食はまだ見つけていないんだ。」
Pooh and Piglet came up and hugged Christopher Robin,
プーとピグレットがやって来て、クリストファー・ロビンにハグをしました。
and explained what had been happening.
そして起こったことを説明しました。
"Don't you know what Tiggers like?" asked Pooh.
「ティガーが好きなものを知らない？」プーが尋ねました。

"I expect if I thought very hard I should," said Christopher Robin, "but I thought Tigger knew."

"I do," said Tigger. "Everything there is in the world except honey and haycorns and--what were those hot things called?"
「知ってるよ。」ティガーは言いました。「この世にあるものは何でも好きさ。ただ、ハチミツとどんぐりと、あと何と言ったっけ、あのヒリヒリする？」
"Thistles."
「アザミ。」
"Yes, and those."
「そう、あれ。」
"Oh, well then, Kanga can give you some breakfast."
「じゃあ、カンガが君に朝食を出してくれるよ。」

So they went into Kanga's house, and when Roo had said, “Hallo, Pooh,” and “Hallo, Piglet” once, and “Hallo, Tigger” twice,
それで彼らはカンガの家に入り、ルーが「やあ、プー。」「やあ、ピグレット。」と１回、「やあ、ティガー。」を２回言いました。
because he had never said it before and it sounded funny,
なぜならば彼は以前に言ったことがなく、何か変に聞こえたからです。
they told Kanga what they wanted, and Kanga said very kindly, “Well, look in my cupboard, Tigger dear, and see what you'd like.”
彼らがカンガに何が欲しいかを告げると、カンガはやさしく、「棚を覗いて、ティガー、あなたが好きなものを見てごらんなさい。」と言いました。
Because she knew at once that, however big Tigger seemed to be, he wanted as much kindness as Roo.
彼女には、たとえどんなにティガーが大きく見えても、ルーと同じ優しさを欲しがっているということがすぐに分かったのです。
“Shall I look, too?” said Pooh,
「ボクも見ていい？」プーは言いました。
who was beginning to feel a little eleven o'clockish.
彼は少し１１時のおやつを感じ始めていました。
And he found a small tin of condensed milk,
そして小さなコンデンス・ミルクの缶を見つけました。
and something seemed to tell him that Tiggers didn't like this, so he took it into a corner by itself, and went with it to see that nobody interrupted it.
何かが彼にティガーはこれが好きではないと言っているように思えて、彼はそれを隅の方に持って行き、持ったまま、誰も邪魔しないか確かめました。
