While this was going on inside him, Owl was talking to Eeyore.
彼の中でこの歌が流れている頃、アウルはイーヨーと話していました。
"Eeyore," said Owl, "Christofer Robin is giving a party."
「イーヨー、クリストファー・ロビンがパーティをするよ。」アウルは言いました。
"Very interesting," said Eeyore. "I suppose they will be sending me down the odd bits which got trodden on. Kind and Thoughtful. Not at all, don't mention it."
「とても面白い。みんながボクに踏みつけられた変な物をくれようとしてるんだね。優しいね。どういたしまして。」イーヨーは言いました。
"There is an invitation for you."
「キミを招待してるんだ。」
注）the odd bits which got trodden on : 踏みつけられた変な物
（以前、イーヨーの誕生日に割れた風船をプレゼントにもらったことがある）

"What's that like?"
「それって、何？」
"An Invitation!"
「招待さ！」
"Yes, I heard you. Who dropped it?"
「ああ、聞こえてるよ。誰が置いていったの？」
"This isn't anything to eat, it's asking you to the party. Tomorrow."
「これは食べ物じゃないよ。パーティに来てくれということさ。明日だよ。」
Eeyore shook his head slowly.
イーヨーはゆっくりと頭を横に振りました。
"You mean Piglet. The little fellow with the excited ears. That's Piglet. I'll tell him."
「ピグレットのことだね。あのピクピクした耳の小さなヤツ。それはピグレットだ。ボクから伝えておくよ。」
"No, no!" said Owl, getting quite fussy. "It's you!"
「違う、違う！キミだよ。」アウルはかなりうるさく言いました。
注）getting quite fussy : かなりやかましい声で
（ここでイーヨーは自分のためのパーティだと思い込みます。）
"Are you sure?"
「本当に？」
"Of course I'm sure. Christofer Robin said 'All of them! Tell all of them.'"
「もちろん、本当さ。クリストファー・ロビンが『みんな！みんなに伝えて！』って言ったんだ。」
"All of them, except Eeyore?"
「みんな、イーヨー以外の？」
"All of them," said Owl sulkily.
「みんなだよ。」アウルは不機嫌に言いました。
"Ah!" said Eeyore. "A mistake, no doubt, but still, I shall come. Only don't blame me if it rains."
「ああ！ボクが間違ってた、絶対に。でもやはり、来るよ。ただ雨が降ったらボクのせいにしないでね。」

But it didn't rain.
でも、雨は降りませんでした。
Christofer Robin had made a long table out of some long pieces of wood, and they all sat around it.
クリストファー・ロビンは長い板を使って長いテーブルを作り、みんなその回りに座りました。
Christofer Robin sat at one end, and Pooh sat at the other,
クリストファー・ロビンが端っこで、プーがその反対側に座りました。
and between them on the other side were Owl and Eeyore and Piglet, and between them on the other side were Rabbit, and Roo and Kanga.
その間の片側に、アウルとイーヨーとピグレット、向かい側に、ラビットとルーとカンガ。
And all Rabbit's friends-and-relations spread themselves about on the grass,
そして、ラビットの友達やら親戚は草の上に広がりました。
and waited hopefully in case anybody spoke to them, or dropped anything, or asked them the time.
そして誰かが話しかけたり、何かを落としたり、時間をきいたりするのではないかと期待して待っていました。
It was the first party to which Roo had ever been, and he was very excited.
ルーにとっては初めてのパーティで、とても興奮していました。
As soon as ever they had sat down he began to talk.
席につくとすぐに話し始めました。
"Hallo, Pooh!" he squeaked.
「やあ、プー！」彼はかん高い声で言いました。
"Hallo, Roo!" said Pooh.
「やあ、ルー！」プーは言いました。
Roo jumped up and down in his seat for a little while and then began again.
ルーはしばらくの間、自分の席でジャンプをしながら、再び始めました。
"Hallo, Pigret!" he squeaked.
「やあ、ピグレット！」彼はかん高い声で言いました。
Piglet waved a paw at him, being too busy to say anything.
ピグレットは彼に手を振り、忙しかったので何も言いませんでした。
"Hallo, Eeyore!" said Roo.
「やあ、イーヨー！」ルーは言いました。
Eeyore nodded gloomily at him.
イーヨーは憂うつそうに彼に頷きました。
"It will rain soon, you see if it doesn't," he said.
「もうすぐ雨が降るよ、降るか、降らないか確かめてごらん。」彼は言いました。
Roo looked to see if it didn't,
ルーは雨が降らないことを確かめました。
and it didn't, so he said,
降らないので彼は言いました。
"Hallo, Owl!" ー and Owl said "Hallo, my little fellow," in a kindly way,
「やあ、アウル！」ーそしてアウルも、「やあ、チビちゃん。」と優しく言いました。
and went on telling Christofer Robin about an accident which had nearly happened to a friend of his whom Christofer Robin didn't know,
そしてクリストファー・ロビンが知らない彼の友達に起こりそうになった事故のことをクリストファー・ロビンに話し続けました。
and Kanga said to Roo,
そして、カンガはルーに言いました。
"Drink up your milk first, dear, and talk afterwards."
「まず、あなたのミルクを飲んでしまいなさい。お話はその後よ。」
So Roo, who was drinking his milk, tried to say that he could do both at once . . . and had to be patted on the back and dried for quite a long time afterwards.
そうして、ルーは、ミルクを飲みながら、両方いっぺんにできるよとを言おうとしましたが・・・
背中をトントンと叩かれて、（その時こぼれたミルクは）しばらく乾きませんでした。
