Will you open the window?

  I like dogs.(私は犬が好きです)
  He likes reading books.(彼は本を読むのが好きです)

water(水) sugar(砂糖) coffee(コーヒー) tea(お茶) money(お金) advice(忠告) homework(宿題) chocolate(チョコレート) bread(パン) paper(紙) milk(ミルク) furniture(家具) rain(雨)

  many books
  much rain

2)「少しの」をつけたい場合、a few ではなく、a little

  a few books
  a little rain

  few books
  little rain

※ a few, a little から「 a 」を取ると、「ほとんど~ない」という「否定語」になります。

a sheet of paper → two sheets of paper
a cup of coffee → two cups of coffee
a glass of water → two glasses of water
a piece of furniture → two pieces of furniture

a と an の区別

apple(りんご), orange(オレンジ), aunt(叔母), uncle(叔父), animal(動物), elephant(象)

a boy → an honest boy ( honest はオネストと発音します)
a book → an interesting book

boys girls books houses cars apples oranges eyes ears eggs animals

glasses boxes churches dishes

leaf ー leaves(葉) knife ー knives(ナイフ)

man ー men(男性) woman ー women(女性) tooth ー teeth(歯) child ー children(子供)

fish ー fish(魚) sheep ー sheep(羊) Japanese ー Japanese(日本人)

potato ー potatoes(ポテト) tomato ー tomatoes(トマト)

ただし、例外として、piano(ピアノ), photo(写真), radio(ラジオ) は s だけと覚えましょう。

現在形 → am, is, are 過去形 → was, were

He is Tom.
Tom is a student.

I am happy.
Tom is young.

My mother is in the kitchen.

<現在形>

主語が、He(彼)、She(彼女)、It(それ)に相当する場合 → is

<過去形>

is と am の過去形 → was

are の過去形 → were

<その他>

原形 → be

<疑問文>

He is Tom. → Is he Tom?

Tom is a student. → Is Tom a student?

You were busy. → Were you busy?

<否定文>

He is Tom. → He is not Tom?

Tom is a student. → Tom is not a student?

You were busy. → You were not busy?

I am → I'm
You are → You're
He is → He's

is not → isn't
are not → aren't

※ isn't, aren't, am not

1人称I(私)We(私たち)
2人称You(あなた)You(あななたち)
3人称
He(彼)
She(彼女)
It(それ)
They(彼ら)

Tom, John, my father など男の人 → He
Mary, Kate, my sister など女の人 → She
my country, this book などの物 → It

私を含む複数 → We(私たち)
例、You and I(あなたと私)、My father and I(父と私)など「私」が含まれていれば「私たち」になります。

例、you and Tom(あなたとトム)、You and your friends(あなたと友達)などは「あなたたち」になります。

私もあなたも含まず、3人称同士の複数 → They(彼ら、彼女ら、それら)
例、Tom and Mary, the books, people

Is Tom a student?
Yes, he is.

Are Tom and Mary students?
Yes, they are.

Tom is a high school student.
He comes to school by bus.

runs knows plays eats likes

goes teaches does catches washes

cry → cries carry → carries study → studies

plays stays

have は、has となります

He is taller than any other boy in his class.

→ He is the tallest boy in his class.

Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan.

→ Mt. Fuji is higher than any other mountain in Japan.

A is longer than B.(A は B より長い) の A と B を入れ替えます

B is not longer than A. (BはAより長くない)となりますが、
→ not as ~ as (原級)を使うようにしてください。

B is not longer than A.(☓)
B is not as long as A.(○)

B is shorter than A.

Mt. Fuji is higher than any other mountain in Japan.の
(Mt.Huji) と (any other mountain in Japan) を入れ替えて見ましょう。

Any other mountain in Japan is not as high as Mt.Fuji.

not + any はOKですが、any + not のように not の前に any がきてはいけません。

No other mountain in Japan is as high as Mt.Fuji.

No (other) mountain in Japan is higher than Mt.Fuji.

No other building in Japan is higher than Mt.Fuji.(☓)
No building in Japan is higher than Mt.Fuji.(○)

Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan.
→ Mt. Fuji is higher than any other mountain in Japan.
→ No other mountain is higher than Mt. Fuji.

Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan.
→ No other mountain is as high as Mt. Fuji.

This is the most beautiful picture in my album.

He runs (the) fastest of us all.

I think this book is by far the most interesting of all.

This is the very best dictionary.
= This is much the best dictionary.

the second largest city(2番目に大きな都市)

Tom is as tall as I.

I can swim as fast as John.

Mary is not as tall as I.

I cannot run as fast as John.

He is twice as old as I.

He has three times as many books as I.

He has many books. / I have many books.

many books を as ~ as の中に入れると、as many books as となる。

注)1倍は、単に as ~ as 、2倍は twice as ~ as 、3倍からは three times 、four times --- となります

This box is half as big as that one.

Run as fast as you can.
= Run as fast as possible.

I studied as hard as I could.
= I studied as hard as possible.
