Ch.6-3　ぼくはイーヨーにこれをプレゼントしようかな

This was too much for Pooh.
これはプーにとってはあまりのことでした。

“Stay there!” he called to Eeyore,
「ここにいて！」彼はイーヨーに言いました。

as he turned and hurried back home as quick as he could;
そして、向きを変え、できるだけ急いで家に帰りました。

for he felt that he must get poor Eeyore a present of some sort at once,
というのは、可哀想なイーヨーにすぐに何かしらのプレゼントをあげなければならないと思ったからです。

and he could always think of a proper one afterwards.
そして彼はいつもその後すぐに適当なものを思いつくことができました。

Outside his house he found Piglet,
プーの家の外で、彼はピグレットを見つけました。

jumping up and down trying to reach the knocker.
彼はノッカーに手を伸ばそうとジャンプしていました。

"Hallo, Piglet," he said.
「やあ、ピグレット。」彼は言いました。

"Hallo, Pooh," said Piglet.
「やあ、プー。」ピグレットは言いました。

"What are you trying to do?"
「何しようとしてるの？」

"I was trying to reach the knocker," said Piglet. "I just came round ー"
「ノッカーに手を届かそうとしてるんだ。ちょうど来たばかりでー」

"Let me do it for you," said Pooh kindly.
「代わりにボクがしてあげるよ。」プーは親切に言いました。

So he reached up and knocked at the door.
彼は手を伸ばして、ノックしました。

"I have just seen Eeyore," he began, "and poor Eeyore is in a Very Sad Condition, because it's his birthday, and nobody has taken any notice of it, and he's very Gloomy ー you know what Eeyore is ー and there he was, and ー What a long time whoever lives here is answering this door."
「イーヨーに今会ってきた。可哀想なイーヨーはとても悲しんでた。なぜなら、彼の誕生日なのに誰も気付いてくれない。彼は憂うつそうだった。ー　イーヨーがどんな奴だか知ってるだろーそんなふうだったんだ。ー　ここの住人はなかなか返事をしないね。」

And he knocked again.
彼はもう一度ノックしました。

"But Pooh," said Piglet, "it's your own house!"
「でも、プー。キミの家だろ？」ピグレットは言いました。

"Oh!" said Pooh. "So it is," he said. "Well, let's go in."
「おぅ！そうだね、じゃあ、中に入ろう。」プーは言いました。

So in they went. The first thing Pooh did was to go to the cupboard to see if he had quite a small jar of honey left; and he had, so he took it down.
それで二人は中に入り、プーが最初にしたことは残っていたハチミツのツボがあるかどうかを確かめて、ハチミツを食べて、ツボを置きました。

"I'm giving this to Eeyore," he explained, "as a present. What are you going to give?"
「ボクはプレゼントとしてこれをイーヨーにやろうかな。君は何をやるの？」彼は説明しました。

"Couldn't I give it too?" said Piglet. "From both of us?"
「ボクもそれじゃだめ？二人からということで。」ピグレットは言いました。

"No," said Pooh. "That would not be a good plan."
「だめだよ。いい計画じゃない。」プーは言いました。

"All right, then, I'll give him a balloon. I've got one left from my party. I'll go and get it now, shall I?"
「わかった、それじゃあ、風船をやろうかな。パーティでもらったのが1つ残ってた。取ってくるけど、いい？」

"That, Piglet, is a very good idea. It is just what Eeyore wants to cheer him up. Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon."
「それはいい考えだ、ピグレット。それこそイーヨーが元気を出す物だ。風船で元気が出ない者はいないからね。」
