Ch.1-6　君の銃で風船を撃ってくれ

The bees were still buzzing as suspiciously as ever.
ハチは相変わらず疑って、ブンブンと音を出していました。

Some of them, indeed, left their nest and flew all round the cloud as it began the second verse of this song,
何匹かは巣を離れ、雲（プー）が歌の２番を歌い始めた頃、雲の回りに集まって来ました。

and one bee sat down on the nose of the cloud for a moment, and then got up again.
その中の１匹が雲の鼻の上に止まり、再び立ち去って行きました。

"Christofer ー ow! ー Robin," called out the cloud.
「クリストファー痛ッ！ーロビン」雲は叫びました。

"Yes?"
「何？」

"I have just been thinking, and I have come to a very important decision. These are the wrong sort of bees."
「考えていたところだけど、とても重大な結論にたどり着いたよ。これらは悪い種類のハチだ。

"Are they?"
「そうなの？」

"Quite the wrong sort. So I should think they would make the wrong sort of honey, shouldn't you?"
「とても悪いハチだよ。だから彼らは悪いハチミツを作ると思ったほうがいい。」

"Would they?"
「そうだろうか？」

"Yes. So I think I shall come down."
「そうだよ。だから降りようと思う。」

"How?" asked you.
「どうやって？」と、君が尋ねます。

Winnie-the-Pooh hadn't thought about this. If he let go of the string, he would fall ー bump ー and he didn't like the idea of that. So he thought for a long time, and then he said:
プーさんはそのことを考えていないませんでした。もし彼がヒモを離したら、彼はドスンと落ちてー彼はそれは嫌でした。そこで彼はしばらく考えて、こう言いました。

"Christofer Robin, you must shoot the balloon with your gun? Have you got your gun?"
「クリストファー・ロビン、君の銃で風船を撃ってくれ。銃を持ってるかい？」

"Of course I have," you said. "But if you do that, it will spoil the balloon," you said.
「もちろん、持ってるけど、そうしたら風船をだめにするよ。」と、君は言いました。

"But if you don't," said Pooh, "I shall have to let go, and that would spoil me."
「でもそうしないと、ボクは風船を離して、ボクがだめになるよ。」と、プーが言いました。

When you put it like this, you saw how it was, and you aimed very carefully at the balloon, and fired.
君がこう言った時、君は状況がどんなふうかを理解しました。そして、君は注意深く風船を狙って、撃ちました。

"Ow!" said Pooh.
「あっ！」プーは言った。

"Did I miss?" you asked.
「外した？」君が尋ねます。

"You didn't exactly miss," said Pooh, "but you missed the balloon."
「正確には外したわけじゃあないけど、風船には当たらなかった。」と、プーは言いました。

"I'm so sorry," you said, and you fired again, and this time you hit the balloon, and the air came slowly out, and Winnie-the-Pooh floated down to the ground.
「ごめんなさい。」と、君は言ってもう一度撃ちました。今度は風船に命中して、空気がゆっくりと抜けていき、プーさんは地面に舞降りてきました。

But his arms were so stiff from holding on to the string of the balloon all that time that they stayed up straight in the air for more than a week, and whenever a fly came and settled on his nose he had to blow it off.
でも、プーさんはずっと風船につかまっていたので、彼の腕は固まってしまい、１週間以上、腕を上にあげたまま、ハエが来て鼻の上に止まっても口で吹いて追い払わなければなりませんでした。

And I think ー but I am not sure ー that that is why he was always called Pooh.
そして私が思うにー はっきりしたわけではないのですが ー彼がプーと呼ばれるのはこれが原因なのかもしれません。

"Is that the end of the story?" asked Christofer Robin.
「それで終わり？」クリストファー・ロビンは尋ねました。

"That's the end of that one. There are others."
「終わりだよ。他にもあるよ。」

"About Pooh and Me?"
「プーと僕の？」

"And Piglet and Rabbit and all of you. Don't you remember?"
「それにピグレットやラビット、君たちみんなの。覚えてないの？」

"I do remember, and then when I try to remember, I forgot."
「もちろん覚えてるよ。でも思い出そうとすると忘れてしまってる。」

"That day when Pooh and Piglet tried to catch the Heffalump ー"
「プーとピグレットがヘファランプを捕まえようとした日の話。」

"They didn't catch it, did they?"
「捕まえなかったよね？」

"No."
「うん。」

"Pooh couldn't, because he hasn't any brain. Did I catch it?"
「プーにはむりだよ。利口じゃないから。ボクは捕まえた？」

"Well, that comes into the story."
「どうかな、それはお話の中で。」

クリストファー・ロビンは頷きました。

"I do remember," he said, "only Pooh doesn't very well, so that's why he likes having it told to him again. Because then it's a real story and not just a remembering."
「ボクは覚えてるよ。プーはあまり覚えていない、だから何度も話してもらうと喜ぶんだ。実際の話しで、覚えておくようなものじゃないからね。」

"That's just how I feel."
「ボクもそう思う。」

Christofer Robin gave a deep sigh, picked his Bear up by the leg, and walked off to the door, trailing Pooh behind him.
クリストファー・ロビンは深いため息を付いてクマの足をつかんで、引きづりながらドアの所へ行きました。

At the door he turned and said,
そこで振り返って、言いました。

"Coming to see me have my bath?"
「お風呂に入るのを見に来る？」

"I might," I said.
「ひょっとしたら。」と、私は言いました。

"I didn't hurt him when I shot him, did I?"
「プーを銃で撃った時、怪我させなかったよね？」

"Not a bit."
「大丈夫。」

He nodded and went out, and in a moment I heard Winnie-the-Pooh ー bump, bump, bump ー going up the stairs behind him.
彼はうなづいて、部屋を出るとすぐに、私はウィニー・ザ・プーがドスン・ドスンと彼のあとを階段をのぼる音が聞こえました。
