Ch.1-4　えっ、青い空の小さな黒い雲に見えない？

and Winnie-the-Pooh went to a very muddy place that he knew of, and rolled and rolled until he was black all over;
プーさんは泥んこの場所に行き、真っ黒になるまで何度も転がりました。

and then, when the balloon wa blown up as big as big, and you and Pooh were both holding on to the string,
それから、風船をいっぱいに膨らませて、君とプーは二人でひもをつかんでいました。

you let go suddenly, and Pooh Bear floated gracefully up into the sky, and stayed there ―
君が手を離すとプーは優雅に空に浮かんで、木の一番上の当たりで止まりました。

level with the top of the tree and about twenty feet away from it.
ハチミツから２０フィートの所です。

"Hooray!" you shouted.
「やったね！」と君が叫ぶ。

"Isn't that fine?" shouted Winnie-the-Pooh down to you. "What do I look like?"
「結構良くないかい？どんなふうに見える？」とプーさんが下にいる君に叫ぶ。

"You look like a bear holding on to a balloon," you said.
「風船につかまっているクマに見えるよ。」と君。

"Not ー" said Pooh anxiously, "ー not like a small black cloud in a blue sky?"
「えっ、青い空の小さな黒い雲に見えない？」と、プーは心配そうに言いました。

"Not very much."
「あんまり。」

"Ah, well, perhaps from up here it looks different. And I say, you never can tell with bees."
「ああ、でも、たぶん;ここからだと違って見えるかも。ほら、ハチのことだから何とも言えない。」

There was no wind to blow him nearer to the tree,
風がなく、プーさんは木に近づけません。

so there he stayed.
そこにじっとして居ました。

He could see the honey, he could smell the honey,
ハチミツは見えているし、香りもします。

but he couldn't quite reach the honey.
でも、まったくハチミツには近づけません。

After a little while he called down to you.
しばらくして彼は下にいる君に声をかけます。

"Christofer Robin!" he said in a loud whisper.
「クリストファー・ロビン！」彼は大きなささやき声で言いました。

"Hallo!"
「どうしたの？」

"I think the bees suspect something!"
「ハチが何かを疑ってるよ。」

"What sort of thing?"
「どんなこと？」

"I don't know. But something tells me that they're suspicious!"
「分からない、けどハチが疑ってるような気がするんだ。」

"Perhaps they think that you're after their honey."
「たぶん君がハチミツを狙ってると思ってるんだよ。」

"It may be that. You never can tell with bees."
「そうかもしれない。ハチのことだから何とも言えない。」
